Text Box: Program Overview
Are you are interested in helping others--individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities?  Are you interested in learning how to influence the public policy that affects these groups?  If so, the Human Services Program (HSP) may be for you.  The HSP is a pre-professional concentration available to Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Psychology majors. Through the HSP you will acquire knowledge in social work theory and methods.  You will acquire skills in interviewing, assessment, and problem solving.  The knowledge and skills that you learn in the HSP will prepare you to assist individuals and groups who are in crisis or otherwise in need.
Purposes of the Program
· To prepare students for human services practice with diverse populations, towards the goal of effecting social change for the benefit of vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals, families, groups, and communities.
· To provide a solid liberal arts education augmented by a pre-professional foundation in human services.

Text Box: Career Options
Students who graduate with a Human Services concentration and acquire a SWTC have a range of professional career choices to choose from.  Students interested in direct human services practice can pursue careers in counseling, child and family advocacy, probation, services for the elderly, and agencies for the mentally or physically challenged.
Students can also pursue careers in indirect human services practice and become advocates for community and organizational change.  Indirect human services careers include lobbyists and grassroots community organizers.
Students completing HSP will automatically be more competitive for graduate studies in the following areas:
