Dr. Allison Gorga has been a professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Edgewood College since 2018. She has published articles on gender and sexual hierarchies in prisons, and on organizational dynamics among prison workers. She earned her PhD in Sociology from the University of Iowa in 2018, and B.A. In Sociology and Studio Art from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX in 2010. In her classes, she enjoys teaching students how to answer sociological questions using real data. For example, students in her Criminology class use tools such as the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports and the Global Terrorism Database to compare crimes across place and over time. In Women & Society, students interview two cohabiting adults about how they divide household tasks and compare their findings to research on gender and labor. In her free time, Allison enjoys going on jogs through the arboretum, playing trivia, and exploring Madison’s amazing restaurant scene.
