Biography

Dr. Patricia Egan joined the Social Science Department in 2000. As a certified social worker and substance use counselor, she brings deep experience of community involvement and direct service to individuals and families. As an instructor, she brings a passion for mentorship and collaborative relationships with students. She particularly enjoys engaging with students in the development their long-term goals and then working together to identify the steppingstones toward those goals.

Dr. Egan’s research focuses on the experience of family caregiving to older adults. Her current projects include 1) examination of the role empathy plays in the caregiving experience for older adults, 2) improvement in the assessment of quality of life among older adults, and 3) development of community initiatives to support dementia-friendly neighborhood development.
